Chero Rebellion (1770–1819 AD)
The Chero Rebellion broke out in the Palamu region due to a succession dispute among the Chero rulers and British interference in local affairs. Taking advantage of this internal conflict, the British attempted to establish their control over Palamu.
The local people and Chero warriors strongly resisted the British. However, with their superior military strength, the British eventually succeeded in bringing the Palamu region under their control.

Second Phase (1800–1819)

- In 1809, the British established the Zamindari Police Force to suppress the rebellion.
- In 1813, the kingdom of Chero ruler Chudaman Rai was auctioned due to unpaid land revenue.
- In 1815, the auctioned estate of Palamu was sold to Raja Dhanshyam Singh of Deo.
- In 1817, the Cheros, jagirdars, and supporters of the former ruler launched another rebellion.
- This phase was led by Thakur Rambaksh Singh and Shiv Prasad Singh.
- The British appointed Roughsedge to suppress the uprising.
